Auckland City is often labelled a “city of villages” and is comprised of 65 islands in the Hauraki Gulf. There are four cities oh which the largest is Auckland city. To the South is Manukau City which is
New Zealand’s third largest city and the location of the Auckland International Airport. A feature of Manukau is the beautiful 300 kilometres of gorgeous coastline.
The third major city is North Shore City where again the accent is on water activities such as can be enjoyed in it’s stunning beaches, harbours and the freshwater Lake Pupuke which is the remainder of a now dormant volcano.
The fourth city is Waitakere City and is well known for its wild coastline and impressive ranges together with the more peaceful bays of it’s harbourside coastlines.
Then there is the Rodney District which is hailed as the Playground of the Western coast.
The Papakura district is the link that ties modern cosmopolitan Auckland with the older rural areas of the South.
The Franklin District in Aucklands Southern reaches is home to the
Awhitu Peninsula to the west, the Hunua Ranges and the Seabird Coast on the east.
